Bouncing in and out
Hello all, newbie here (we new in terms of car ownership) in reality a right old twit.... Previously owned a Charade 15 years ago which lasted me years and was great till it got stolen
Picked up a MOVE a few weeks back and love it, great ride, love the seating position and more than anything the simplicity. Not all is that good mind, its got a oil leak from hell which is stopping me form doing what I want to do with it..
Drag Racing (STOCK CAR) in october with a drag racing club i belong to Lands End to John o Groats nearer xmas
Alas i have no handbooks no manuals and no clues as to how to look after it let alone fix it... thats why i am here...
Hi again Paul and welcome to kkitp
I will keep my eyes peeled for solutions for replacing your tired move engine, if I find anything suitable I'll Pm you dude (^_^)
Oh and I'm sure I can find a spare a owners manual in my piles car paperwork at home lol
As i said I am new to the Kei Car scene but have played with some old school small stuff before, my fav previous car was Marvin... started off as a 34 hp 1057cc ended up at 1200cc 65bhp engine, which considering it was 1960's technology was not bad.
I also have this in build at the minute to be powered by a 203bhp Lotus Esprit engine
So a nice little MOVE with a bit of randomness will complete my fleet
Right I am back ... I have managed to obtain for an exchange of english puns notes an old manual 850cc engine locally... Its been stripped down and i have discovered a world saving design feature the rear crank oil seal of this engine YIPEEEE It can be changed without removing the crank!!!
All my old vauxhall engines have the seal trapped inside the rear main bearing cap so the sump has to come off (which means removing it from the car) the main bearing caps have to be dropped off, along with the timing chain and only at that point can the crank be lifted and finally one has access to the oil seal.
So if you saw or followed my thread on Facebook where i was using the terms CATASTROPHIC you will understand why....
So I am going to rebuild this engine with all new seals and gaskets (pending finding them) then swap it into the car and finally have something i can drive without sponsorship of MOBIL and ESSO combined.
I will do a thread on the rebuild as i like doing these... here is one i did last year for a short engine on a vauxhall Viva engine.
HERE BE LINK
BOY that was fun, stripped the engine down to a bare block, then took the timing cover off to inspect the timing belt, but that required the bottom pulley to be removed.... Thats was so much fun i have decided to let the FUN remain in the workshop abandoned until i have calmed the FUN down... The pulley has separated form itself, so i have an inner core with some rubbery stuff around it to which a large V pulley was pressed. Has anyone got a spare?
Feel your pain, feels like the similar kind of fun we've been having with our Carol, except instead she came apart quite easily... going back together mind... haha
Hopefully you'll have a bit more luck tomorrow
NOOOO, that sway way to nice to be my car... mine is an old silver rusty one with some nice matt black to hide said rust !!! I will deal with that stuff at a later date, for now its about getting it running.... Alas building a Datsun 160j rally car my Viva GT rebuild and a workshop full of rubbish is getting in the way of a reocn unit for the MOVE... by the end of today the workshop should be cleaned up and the replacement engine in bits all cleaned up awaiting the gaskets and seals i have bought
