Hello..

Just about to look at and hopefully buy one of these great cars... it has been advertised on Pistonheads this week and was just wondering if anyone here knows this car or has owned it before? HPI said it has had 5 owners before so I thought it was worth a try..

The Reg is S761 VAB

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3548197.htm

Been looking at getting a Kei car for a while and the Cuore Avantazo was the one I kept coming back to..

Is there anything particular I need to look out for when checking it over?

I live in Bristol.. any Kei car heads in my area?

Thanks in advance!

Darren

Hi and welcome, usual things to look out for would be rust on front lip of bonnet, and on wheel arches, gearbox issues on these cars are fairly common so check for no nasty noises whilst driven, other than that the car looks sound, good luck and if you do get it you will not regret it ,good luck

Hi Darren,

I did write a buyers guide in the daihatsu mira section aimed at people like you but unfortunately something is wrong with the thread and the majority of the content is missing so ill try to summarise it:-

You should look for rust on the bonnet edges, engine mounting points and around the rear wheel arches. The alloys tend to worm so generally end up needing a refurb. Turbos and gearboxes are the mechanical weak points. The gearbox issue is usually down to the transfer box bearings going, this can be fixed with a rebuild by 0a specialist, the bearings are apparently 'common'. Just listen out for any funny grinding noises when on the move and ensure all gears can be selected fine.

The turbos tend to coke as a result of poor oil. Oil changes should be done at 3k intervals to avoid this. Just ensure that the car pulls right through to the redline. These cars do feel nippy and the tubo kicks in at around 3,000 rpm.

Parts are ok to find if youre persistant and basic tuning will see some moderate power increases. The first stage mods consist of a straight through stainless exhaust, induction kit and starlet glanza intercooler as these mods remove a lot of the factory restrictions.

I hope this has helped and apologies for any typos etc as im doing this on my phone. Welcome to the site by the way!

I did try to read your Buyers guide Boulder and yes there is something wrong with the text...

Thanks for the warm welcome.. really looking forward to seeing it and trying not to get too excited about it!!

He said it is a standard car so would you people recommend fitting a Turbo Timer, Boost gauge and dump valve? (Never owned a turbo car before so any help is greatly appreciated!!)

Love Japanese cars, I have a Mitsubishi Delica L300 4wd mini van, but is a petrol 2.0 and manual gearbox with twin sliding doors.. never seen another one like it..

Thanks everyone.. can't wait to be razzing around Bristol in it...

Yea, i would recommend fitting a turbo timer and boost guage. As for the dump valve i think thats more of a personal preference thing, some people have thought that it sounds silly on our cars.

Im only from the forest of dean so it would be nice to have a semi local zato owner.
