Can I fit in an AZ-1?
New member here, looking for some advice.
I've read lots of conflicting reports on tall people fitting in Mazda AZ-1's. I'm 6 foot, but fairly slim. Would my head pressed against the roof, or would it be drivable?
I can't exactly go see one and try it for myself. I'm in Ireland, and I doubt there's any in the country...
I'm 5'11" andf the only issue I have is wheen I need to wear a crash helmet, which means I need to take the sunshades out from the roof. I did need to modify the seat rails so the drivers seat would go back an extra 1/2" though (there's no adjustment on the passenger side)
If I remember rightly there is an owner in Oz who's 6'1" and he neeeded to shave the foam on the base of the seat cushion to get a bit of extra headroom.
I understood that you could fit driver seat from Lotus Elise and get more headroom and at the same time you'll get proper runners for fitting 4-point belts and bit less cramped seat fit if you have larger frame. Because Elise seats are quite available from salvaged cars these days, I'll probably try to get one to see how it fits.
I'm 6'2, slim and test-drove one in Tokyo for my brother once, (unfortunately he didn't buy it, and got himself a complete lemon cappuccino instead ) I recall it being a very tight fit headroom wise but was able to drive it just fine. Some modified low runners/seat sounds like a good idea though.
