emo Mighty Car Mods - Kei Cars

Hey everyone, I thought I'd create a little library for anything Kei car related (or, close enough to being a Kei car due to export engine size differences) that Mighty Car Mods has done. I'm surprised there hasn't been more activity on the forum due to these guys!

Beginnings

So, as some of you may or may not know, a couple of Australian Youtubers known collectively as "Mighty Car Mods" produce a show detailing how to perform a variety of different modifications to your car at home, as well as in depth videos into their own personal builds, and anything else technical or car related.

The show has been an enormous success, with millions of subscribers all over the world, with popularity continuing to grow to this day.

Ever since the very first episode, the pair have had an affection for the L700 Daihatsu Cuore (Australian delivered, 1.0L EJ-VE powered cars). This started with "How to Pimp your Ride for under $500":

I believe this was actually Moog's car, purchased after owning a Jeep for a short while, which cost far too much to run due to it being rather thirsty.

Whilst not technically a Kei car due to the 1L engine, it did start their affiliation for small cars, especially Daihatsus. And shortly afterwards, they began a crowd-funded show car project, yet again another L700 Series Cuore.

Turbos and Temples

Next up was their first feature length film - Turbos and Temples

Shot in northern Japan, this video takes the pair on a trip to gain an insight into Japanese car culture. The pair were driving around Japan in two cars, a Subaru Impreza and a Suzuki Alto Works RSR.

(Behind the scenes):

Which also led to the video "How to Install a Bleed Valve" on their Suzuki Alto Works:

Subaru Fiori

For a very brief period, the pair owned a Subaru Fiori (I think it's basically an Australian Domestic Market Subaru Rex?) but nothing really came of the car in their possession due to extensive corrosion that was found:

Money Pits - A little write up of the Fiori

But they did install the "World's Cheapest DIY Car Stereo" into it:

I think I read somewhere that Mechanical Stig (a good friend of theirs) got hold of it and started a crazy build. Not entirely sure what came of that, though. He did have his own separate "STI Fiori build, as well as a Subaru Vivio RX-R at some point.

The Blue Turd

Next began the "Blue Turd" phase - an affectionate name given to yet another L700 Cuore that became Marty's daily.

Plenty of DIY videos ensued. How to change your fluids:

And how to install a start button:

But, the car wasn't exactly running well:

So a 1.3L K3-VE conversion was done, sourced from a Daihatsu Sirion GTV-i:

It was apparently time for Marty to move on from the Cuore. But for that to happen, it had to be beaten on a track by a similarly priced car:

Kei to the City

They went to Japan once again for another feature length film, this time to buy, modify and drift a car on a low budget at a drift event in Japan. Their car of choice? A Daihatsu Mira L210s Avanzato:

Behind the Scenes:

The car was then imported to Australia as a "half cut" (Due to it not being allowed to be imported as a full car, only as spare parts).

They seemed to move away from small cars for a little while, though some Kei stuff did end up on their channels:

Lend us a Ride

Lend us a Ride was a spin off show to Mighty Car Mods, where they attempted to travel across Australia only using borrowed cars. In the first episode of the show, they started their journey in a 1982 Daihatsu Mira that had been converted to an electric car. Their original Daihatsu Cuore show car also made an appearance, now with a turbocharged 1.3L K3-VE heart:
