Some prep for another Rockingham drift day:

At Rockingham:

Ended up having a couple of issues that day. Both engine mounts had snapped, and to top it all off, an incident with a tyre wall bent my power steering pump pulley and snapped the auxiliary belt.

Luckily it was right at the end of the day. Managed to straighten the pulley somewhat and obtained a new belt from another E36 owner!

Once I got back, a set of polyurethane engine mounts were fitted.

Old mounts:

New ones:

Also replaced the power steering pulley with a new aluminium one, with a brand new auxiliary belt.

Trying out some new wheels...

Some snow fun! (Complete with new front bumper)

A better look at the new M Sport front bumper, with M3 lip, and DTM lip on top of that!

I think there's some sort of breathing issue with the car, since the plugs came out of the engine looking like this:

Needs some more investigating!

Finally got round to replacing my cheap and nasty coilovers with some new HSD's!

Old junk:

Rears, side by side:

Fronts:

The car now feels a lot more stable!

This thread makes me want to go out and work on my e36. Im not into drifting but road racing has always been a favorite of mine.

You know whats funny? I have basically 3 of the same cars you do. A soarer 1jz, suzuki wagon rr and an e36. I also have a classic mini too.

E36's are really great cars! Fantastic chassis and built really well. Even when my Compact was a poverty spec 1.6, it felt really solid.

The Soarer I had was really great. Imported it from Japan myself, but was far too clean and tidy to drift. Factory manual R154 gearbox, 1JZ-GTE single turbo VVT-i engine. It was sold before I even got a chance to put number plates on it!

I've always had a soft spot for Wagon R's. My aunt has a 660cc turbo one in Japan. Had it since about 2000 I think. It was my first Kei experience, too! Looking forward to seeing yours as well! I'm assuming you'll be on the stand at Japfest?

Recently, the entire rear subframe and fuel tank was removed for a job that initially I thought was a lot smaller than it turned out to be...

Which was this...

Hidden behind both the fuel tank and subframe mounting points was a rust hole that was a lot larger than I initially thought.

There's a rubber boot which sits around the fuel filler neck, which seems to have fallen off, and over time, the back of the sill has been filling up with water/salt/dirt etc which has been chucked up from the rear driver side wheel.

Cutting begins...

Seemed to go on and on!

Sill and jacking point repaired:

Inside section being worked on. Was pretty difficult considering the shape of the piece.

And all done!

Since the subframe was removed, it gave me an opportunity to clean up and install a fresher subframe that I had as a spare, as well as add a full set of Powerflex Black polyurethane bushes to the back end.

Replacement subframe after blasting:

Removal of the original rear arm bushes:

Old and new subframes, side by side:

Painting the diff:

Starting to build up the back end again:

And ready to go back onto the car!

Also fitted a rear anti rollbar from a 318ti Compact, since the 1.6 didn't come with one. Complete with new polyurethane droplink bushes!

And all done!

yup, i will have it at japfest. I'm hoping to get the rims done and some paint touch ups before then but time is not on my side.

I love my soarer. I grabbed it from japan last year and had it here for about a month before i realized it was pointless to have a car like that in the uk so i shipped it to America where i can really enjoy it. They never had them so it's quite rare as well.
Im hoping to find a kei car to ship over at some point too.
