emo Mark's Daihatsu Mira L512 TR-XX Avanzato R4 Build Thread

So, it's nearly time for the annual meet. And I've given myself less than a week to prepare the car, MOT it, tax it and insure it.

So far, I've booked the MOT, washed the car and fitted my new wheels. That's about it, really. The plan is to drive it for a month then work on it over the winter.

There are a few jobs that I've been wanting to tackle for a while, which I'm hoping to do between now and next spring. Fuel lines, rear arches, engine bay rust removal (things like the rad support), bonnet lip (again - it seems to be getting a bit 'dull' on the underside of the lip, so I want to attack any potential corrosion before it even has a chance to manifest). Paint on both bumpers have seen better days, as well as the side skirts. Brakes are an issue too. Something's not quite right and they feel quite wooden, even though they have had a full re-bleed, new pads, new discs and new rear shoes. So I need to look into that. More fun things include new suspension, new headlights (again) and then some performance mods from Japan. Still got a TD-04 turbo to go on, so I'm looking to visit KC-Technica in Japan whilst I'm over there next year, for the necessary parts to run it properly.

Anyway, here's the car as it stands now, new wheels and massive arch gap.

So, the Annual Meet went well. Car looked... Okay-ish and it was great to see everyone again. Was also good to see another Mira at the end of the day, too! Turns out it was sold from the same Daihatsu dealership in Worcester as mine, shortly before mine left the forecourt. Only two owners from new and just over 30,000 miles. Really clean since it spent most of it's time in France, apparently.

As you can see, my front bumper is sporting quite a nice scrape on the driver side corner, so I've decided that some bodywork is in order. My rear arches have started to bubble slightly too, so I might as well tackle both at the same time. Should be starting towards the end of this week, so we'll see how it goes.

Many thanks. I've been looking for a second set of wheels for some time as it's a bit of a chore swapping summer/winter tyres twice a year, but the options are some what limited as you know.

Small update on things.

The car has been running awfully for a little while. Seems to be misfiring quite badly on one of the cylinders. I suspected that it was an issue with the coilpacks since the plugs seemed fine and the misfire stays on the same cylinder when the plugs are swapped around (Can't do the same sort of test with the coilpacks since there are only two direct coils and two HT leads coming off of those for the other two cylinders).

Rather than shelling out for coilpacks instantly, I decided to change the two HT leads for a pair of NGK ones that I purchased from Japan.

This didn't solve the issue though. So now, I'm waiting for a set of Hitachi coilpacks to arrive which should hopefully fit first of all, and also solve my issue. Failing that, I'm assuming it's a fuelling issue. And if that's the case, I won't be making it to Japfest.

Cutting it close to say the least, but hopefully it'll all work out!

Have you maybe considered trying to find a set of UK Spec Cuore L501 alloy wheels to run in the winter or something? Should be more common than Avanzato wheels at least, and still come in the 4x110 PCD fitment.

I received more anti-misfire goodies!

Got my Hitachi coilpacks from Japan.

It's probably about time for an ignition system refresh. Considering all of this stuff has been on the car since 1998.

All fitted up perfectly and runs like a dream again. Also treated her to a new breather filter on the rocker cover.

Standard Daihatsu coilpacks: 90048-52111
Hitachi Coilpacks: U11D01-COIL 5Z09
NGK HT Leads: RC-DX39 1936
