I saw them for sale and thought it would look nice I guess. It kinda breaks up the dreary grey plastics a bit and makes it look a little more interesting! And maybe, depends on how much you were thinking! ;)

More progress! Still a mad rush to get everything sorted before Japfest...

Got the paint:

Final touches made to the bonnet before applying the base coat.

Mixing:

Base coat applied:

After some lacquer:

The car waiting under a very drifty Skyline. There are worse cars to be sat under, I suppose~

And all done! Can't believe how different the bonnet looks now. Unbelievably happy with it! B)

Just got to wait until tomorrow to pick up my new number plates. Got to do a LOT of cleaning now and prepping for Japfest. Not sure if I'll have enough time to install my adjustable thermostat, but ideally I want to get it done before the long drive on Sunday. Interior is filled with workshop dust and the exterior looks like it's been through a dry, dusty rally stage recently, so plenty more to do!

Last minute preparations before Japfest 2

Pretty pleased with the new number plates. They were definitely needed!

Finally done at 1:30am. Under 2 hours sleep before I left for the show, too. :pinch:

Also ordered a new intercooler today. Not a front mount, but something special at least B)

ARC Top mount intercooler has now been shipped from GFast Motorsports, in Malaysia. Should take around a week to arrive, depending on how long customs decide to hold it for. I had previously ordered one from Keicar4life, but we all know how that turned out

It's a bit grotty and dirty, but it should polish up rather well. It's a direct fit for the JBJL engine as well, which is an added bonus. Really good flow too, and ideal if you want to keep the air conditioning, like me. Incredibly rare and difficult to get hold of though, which is why I snapped this one as quickly as I could.

Shouldn't have any issues regarding limited performance compared to a front mount though. My_cil managed to get 123.8bhp out of his Mira with a hybrid turbo with this intercooler setup, as seen in his thread here. Hoping to have similar results when I get round to upgrading my turbo at some point in the future.

Intercooler arrived today. Once again, absolutely fantastic service from GFast Motorsport.

Straightened out some bent fins with a set of tweezers.

Degreased it, gave it a clean up and fitted it to the car. I still need to fiddle around with one of the Samco silicon joiners that I got for the outlet of the intercooler. Not sure if the angle is correct, so the old one will do for now.

The car feels more responsive. Now that the three areas of restriction on the engine have been removed (the factory airbox, exhaust and intercooler) the car should be breathing in and out a lot better. Looking to potentially mess around with the boost now, but that'll probably be after I sort out the handling. It's still way too high

It's nice to see how the engine bay has changed over the past year. Nothing too crazy, but steady progress at least.

Back here again...

Drove to Manchester for the weekend. Somewhere near Birmingham on the way back, the oil light began flickering. Not good. No oil pressure means no oil circulating, which means no engine, which means no driving.

Checked the usual things. The oil level was fine and the engine had no performance related issues at all. Weirdly, the light went off if the engine was revving at over 3,000rpm.

Fearing the worst, I had a feeling that it was the oil pump. My reasoning behind that was that it appeared that the engine was circulating oil and pressurising at high rpm, making me believe that the pump was knackered and on it's last legs.

Got hold of an oil pressure testing kit and went around to find the sensor. Which took longer than it should have. Eventually it was found, on the left hand side of the block.

Quite a silly place to put it, if you ask me. Fast spinning belts right next to the sensor and the wire going from it. Which turned out to be the problem:

The plastic clips that held the wire to the edge of the engine bay had fallen off, allowing the wire to work loose and rub against a belt.

With that sorted and the wire re-routed, the problem was solved instantly. B)

Whilst the car was there, we fitted the adjustable thermostat that I had obtained. I've had a constant issue with my engine fan not kicking in since I purchased the car, so this seemed like a cheap and viable solution. It's basically just a dial connected to a temperature probe which sits in one of the radiator pipes. As soon as the coolant reaches the set temperature, the fan kicks in.

The probe, inside one of the top hoses:

It was something like £20 from eBay. Definitely worth it, too, so that's another job crossed off the list.

Whilst routing around the engine bay for the oil pressure sensor, we found that the gearbox has a breather on the top of it... Except mine wasn't actually connected to anything and was just rolling around my engine bay...

Looks like it had been held in place with silicon which had perished, causing it to fall off. So now, there's just a gaping hole at the top of my box that needs looking at. I'm assuming that this was done when the gearbox was refurbished whilst the car was in the hands of a previous owner. Thanks Gloucester Road Gearboxes. Nice to see that the ridiculous amount of money charged was definitely justified and you did a proper job...

More to come. Chassis mods next, I think. B)

Thanks mate! Yeah, performance upgrades and things are still slow but steady. A lot of the stuff I'm doing seems to be focussed on getting the car back up to scratch first. B)

Managed to sort the breather hose on the gearbox (I think). Used some Tiger Seal to hold it in place, whilst hopefully creating a seal over the hole. We'll see if it holds, I'm just praying that it'll no longer spray gearbox oil all over the place. :pinch:
