Once again, I have made a very silly life choice, and gone and bought this....
Rusty sills, knackered roof, and doesnt run.. Turns up on friday when I will know more, but I thought I would just show it to you guys so I can start asking questions!!
Questions like, where can I buy a roof from? And how much is that likely to cost?
(although I probably dont want to know the answer to the latter... lol!)
Apparently it has fuel and spark, and turns over but wont fire, so probably electrical. Any tips on where to start?
Anywhere I can get wiring diagrams?
Are Honda going to laugh me off the phone if I mention it regarding parts? (Highly likey, if my experience with Daihatsu is anything to go by!
But yeah, anyways, hello! I cant remember if I started a thread on here about my '86 Daihatsu Domino, so if not, hello to you all! And either way, genuine finders fee if anyone can find me a ED10 cable shift 5 speed box for it! But that is a digression. More to come on the Beat this weekend!

Nice work! I've always loved Honda Beats.
As far as I'm aware, Honda are able to get you pretty much anything you need, and at a bloody low cost as well! From what I've heard, they're always happy to help Beat owners and can get stuff to you relatively quickly. Always been a bit jealous of this, especially after dealing with Daihatsu UK...

If anyone has any workshop manuals, or any insight into how the roof is supposed to look, (a few pics would be excellent), anything would be super appreciated
I can confirm about Honda dealers, they are really good with Beats, they even did a cambelt service on my last one at the standard Honda rates.
I got a roof with a glass rear window from the states a few years back for £450. Yours just looks like it needs a new set of poppers at the rear though.
There was a full set of manuals online but I think they have gone now. I'm sure one of the Beat owners on here will be able to help out though

I absolutely love it. Its absurdly small, can barely fit in it (need a smaller wheel asap!), I already absolutely adore it, and it came with loads of spares!! Exciting. I wish it started... lol

here is a few tips i discovered on various beats that might help
the fuel pumps can stick/sieze if left unused
the timing is critical and often set wrong
ecu can fail and also the relay next to it
might i suggest have a read through the manuals then start at the basics. if you pull of all access panels and part of roof it will be a lot easier to work on. if you like the car now wait till you hit 9000 rpm going round a roundabout like its on rails
Thank you so much for that Mikei!! Now I have a some places to start. I feel from the way it is turning over it might be timing. How do I set the timing on one of these? Can I just give the dizzy a twist and see if that makes a difference without damaging anything? This is a very modern car as far as I am concerned lol I am used to working on old carb cars! The whole ECU thing is relatively new to me. But I have read that the heat can make the solder brittle and snap in them, is this a simple case of resoldering or is it a replacement ecu job? Can I buy a fuel pump from anywhere this side of the world? I very much appreciate the help
Also, what is the tiny key type thing on my keys? Looks like one of those old immobiliser type thingys? Is that the case? Ta
Well I confirmed today that the fuel pump isnt seized But what I also know is the banjo fitting where it joins the fuel rail likes to projectile vomit fuel in every direction when I prime the injectors... so still no running, but at least there is some sort of diagnosis on at least one of the problems, so its still progress!! I was planning to check it had decent spark and then try and sort the timing, but then it spewed loads of fuel everywhere, so I decided probably best not to be earthing a plug off a fuel soaked head! Still absolutely loving it though, and the motivation to get it on the road doesnt seem to have any intentions of leaving, which is nice!
Also, as I am not the sharpest tool in the shed mechanically, (thankfully I have good friends for that!), I was just curious as to what a decent working engine would cost me? And if its more likely I will fill the bath with blood from a pebble before I find one... Because if I cant get it running in the next month or so, just chucking a decent engine in it certainly wouldnt be a bad shout. I want to drive it!!!
I have now got a very nice OMP steering wheel donated by a friend for it, which helps my lanky leg problems, but I am yet to find a boss that fits. Is there any other similar era Honda's that share the splines or whatever?
