Poor little Carol.
Now she's got a new caring home.
Can't wait to see her in a few days.  Just get those spiders out first.  :ninja:

Did you say anything to them about the misleading advert/pics?
I would have gone slightly mental at them looking at the state of the car and the 5yr old pics used on the advert. I hope you got a bit of a refund at least.

Anyway, good work on the save and fingers crossed it's back on the road without too much work  :thumb:

To be honest I don't think they were being intentionally misleading with the adverts/pictures. I don't think they realise the damage that's been done by leaving her in a ditch for 6 years.

Jamie gave her the first wash today!

We found all sorts of things in the boot, unopened boxes of parts including a clutch, pressure plate, release bearing, brake pads, timing belt, aux belt, tensioner... we just hope these parts aren't in there because the timing belt broke!

Surely she wouldn't have tried starting her up if the timing belt had snapped would she?  Then again she did park it in a ditch so...

Looking forward to seeing this! Want to check a few vac pipes around the inlet manifold and it's interesting to see how the HT leads are routed under the intercooler. Might Change my current setup  :ninja:

So Jamie began work on trying to remove the head today.

But first he jacked her up and took a detailed look at her underside (OOoohhh excuse you! hehe)... he starred silently, not saying a word, banging the under side of the car and not saying a word... I was getting worried, so I bent down to take a look too... when he banged the underside nothing dropped down and the underside of the car had a small amount of surface rust on it but was otherwise in perfect condition!

I'm so over the moon!

We're going to get a wire wheel and remove the rust, treat it and then get her under sealed properly.

All of her body work is in perfect condition (the sides have a few chips and dents in there, probably from supermarket car parks) but not a spot of serious rust anywhere!

I had to go pick up the trophy for the KKITP champion, but when I returned Jamie was already well under way trying to remove the head.

The timing cover is held on now only by the crankshaft pulley, which we cannot access because of the solid inner wheel arch (which I'm not complaining about hehe). So Jamie has been trying to drop the engine to get access to it. However everything is so tightly crammed in there he's struggling to find all the bolts, but he's getting there.

While Jamie did that I began work cleaning the interior. The driver's door card has come up really well, there's a few dark marks on it so I might try some more abrasive cleaner, but I will try it on a less obvious spot first.

I started cleaning the seat too but the fabric seemed so fragile I didn't want to carry on, so I will try the carpet cleaner on it tomorrow (it's a little less destructive than rubbing it with blue cloth).

The interior is coming up really nicely, there's a few tears that I will have to look into getting fixed along with the mats. We had a bit of a mishap with one of the wind deflectors, but we'll fix that or replace it if we can.

I then sat on the kitchen floor cleaning the main wind deflector for the roof... turns out it's see-through hehe

(Please excuse the coffee table, it's another project I'm in the middle of... it was my Grandad's!)

I must admit I'm really smitten with Carol, she's just so cute.

I can't wait to show the TADOs the owner's manual if they haven't already seen one. It's amazing!
